As a new or existing believer in Christ. I think we should all consider the Gospel and the work that was done for us on the cross. Through this series, we will explore the gospel in ways that can reach new believers and those who are considering following Jesus through the work done on the cross. Let's jump into the meaning of the gospel. Because I desire to reach both the unbeliever and believer let's all look with fresh eyes at what's been done on the cross and remember to consider the gospel throughout your entire life and through every situation. Okay, let's take a look.
The Gospel: The gospel is the four books in the New Testament, which are Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts. These are the records of the good news. Also, God's plan for a savior through the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Each book has a method to communicate the life message of Jesus Christ.
Now that we understand the Gospel, let's look at the word consider.
Consider: think carefully about (something), typically before making a decision.
Alright, so before you deny, walk away or make a quick decision to quit on God. I want you to consider what Christ has done for us. Not, just for you as an individual but for our entire world. The gospel is the truth we need in this crazy world. I believe if we ever considered it all over again with fresh eyes we can see that Jesus's message of the Gospel is the real truth in the midst of this fake news. So how do we consider the message of the gospel?
In the books of the gospel, Jesus gives us answers to everything under the sun. He talks in parables to his disciples and to the multitudes to create an in-depth understanding of the eternal life we can live as we believe that he's been sent as the redeemer of Sin. When we face trials or cycles of trauma and pain we usually complain trying to find simple solutions. We try looking for reasons for the persecution and we begin panicking. Could it be that we haven't considered the gospel? I might say something a little harsh here when we experience death and we allow grief to overwhelm us could it be that we aren't considering the gospel?
Jesus faced tremendous betrayal just to put a large deposit on humanity. His investment in us was so large. He knew he wouldn't get a return on it. He suffered and endured for the sake of seeing us fight with him in the end. Jesus came to serve and not to be served. Let's consider this passage.
John 10:10 "The thief cometh not but to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly."
As you consider this week about your decision to continue following Jesus or to begin your relationship with him. Look at this scripture. He does not come to steal or kill us. He comes to edify us and to bring us the life we didn't know we wanted. He brings us the life we didn't know we needed and the care we didn't know we deserved. Consider . . . what does life even mean to you now? What would life be if you considered why Jesus came? What would life be if you gave him the ability to alter what you see now? Consider the Gospel.
Matthew 18-22 "When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” But Jesus told him, “Follow me and let the dead bury their own dead.”
Consider, when you follow Jesus are you willing to leave your past behind? Are you willing to leave your excuses behind? Are you willing to leave your fears, doubts, and worries? Jesus tells us that there will be a cost to following him. Which isn't an unfamiliar phrase. We have to sacrifice every time we worship something. As humans behind we were made to worship. So if we aren't worshiping God then we are worshiping something else and the lord does not like us worshipping idols. So let's consider the work that's done on the cross and the gospel that teaches us how to follow him.
